Extensio Unveils Symphony, a Multi-interface Delivery Solution
for Business Users
Symphony Enables Business Users to Access and Update Enterprise
Applications Using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and
Mobile Devices

2006 -- Extensio Software, Inc., providers of Information
Integration and Delivery technology, today announced Extensio®
Symphony, a multi-interface delivery software that connects
business users to enterprise applications on interfaces of
their choice including Microsoft® Outlook®, Microsoft Excel®,
Microsoft Windows® applications, mobile devices, PDAs and
browsers. Extensio Symphony enables such users to get/update
data from multiple enterprise applications such as SAP® R/3,
mySAP ERP 2004, databases, web services, and portals.
Despite large investments in enterprise applications, most
business users do not use them because they find enterprise
applications cumbersome to use. For example, they prefer to
work in Microsoft Excel, and take business decisions from
there, despite the hard and often risky process of creating
Office documents using Cut-Copy-Paste methods from enterprise
applications. Further, once the data has been moved into Microsoft
Excel, there are no easy ways to ensure its freshness and
accuracy, resulting in endless checks.
For the business users that use Microsoft Outlook as their
email tool, they often need information from their enterprise
data for taking decisions, including filing and approving
requests, but without direct access to their enterprise applications,
they have to change context, use custom applications, do copy-paste,
and lose valuable time. Even on the road, business users have
no access to enterprise data and are forced to call back-office
to get the information they need.
With Extensio Symphony’s multi-interface delivery solution
for business users, information services from multiple back-end
enterprise applications can be delivered in read/write/refresh
modes on Microsoft Office 2000+ interfaces, Microsoft Windows
98+ desktops, GSM/CDMA phones, PDAs, browsers and even on
all other Microsoft Windows applications.
With Extensio Symphony, business users can access enterprise data on their favorite interfaces, and perform business processes such as updating employee leave records from within Outlook, receiving notifications when purchase requisitions are raised, and populating monthly sales reports in Excel without cut-and-paste and approve requests from their phones.

Extensio Symphony, a patented SOA-based information access and delivery platform, consists of:

(b) Extensio Adapters that connect to enterprise applications such as SAP, ERP/CRM, EAI, databases, legacy applications, web services, flat files, Excel files and LDAP and any other custom source.
(c) Extensio Extender for Microsoft Excel 2000+ and Outlook 2000+ built as an Office Add-in that provides data from back-end sources connected through Extensio Information Delivery Server.
(d) Extensio Extender for Microsoft Desktop built as a windows application that provides data on top of all desktop applications such as Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
(e) Extensio Extender for Mobile and PDAs to query, update and deliver notifications on mobile devices using SMS and J2ME.
The Extensio Information Services are developed with Extensio Studio, a RAD toolkit to quickly build Extensio information services in a day or two.
